I was wondering if anyone here has a good recommendation on an inexpensive mini/pistol crossbow that would work fine for this purpose. Anyway, I started looking into it more and for some reason "crossbow" crossed my mind - it seems like a pretty effective way to take care of small game. And I'd have to probably try to shoot from indoors (with our french doors swung open) so that the noise factor isn't something that would cause a nosy neighbor to start watching. Pellet guns were mentioned but I don't like the idea of shooting one at such close quarters - no more than 20-30feet out. I have a live trap to trap them but I'm looking for clean ways to dispatch them (humanely) as well as getting rid of the loose ones both quietly and effectively, without ricochets. We are planning to plant new plants in our yard and have a few fruit trees - these guys pretty much stole all the apricots off the apricot tree as soon as they were ripe. They are not protected and can be captured and killed (it's illegal to relocate them) particularly if they are causing damage to your property. The outside of our property line belongs to the city and there are a number of ground squirrel burrows. We are having issues with ground squirrels in our yard.
